My top 8 small time predictions for 2011
I know I’m a little late in posting this, but hey, it’s still pretty close to the beginning of the year so I think I’m fine. After all, how could I call myself any sort of small time investor if I didn’t have any predictions and expectations for the upcoming year brewing in my little brain? I’ll check how this adds up at the end of the year.
Prediction 1: Real estate prices will continue to drop this year
This one is a bit easier to predict. The good ole’ stated income loans on 5 year ARMs (a.k.a. liar loans) made during the real estate booming year of 2006 will all come home to roost, and it ain’t gonna be pretty. I would mention more reasons, but we all pretty much have been bombarded with them in the news for a long time.
Prediction 2: People will stock up for 2012 and the end of the world
We’ve all seen or heard of the movie, right? I completely agree. It was terrible. No one here really believes in that stuff… but just in case…
Prediction 3: Nuclear power will make gains outside the US
Nuclear power is basically going nowhere in the US this year. But outside look for countries such as China start to invest for future power expansion
Prediction 4: NFL players will strike in 2011
Not as much to do with investing per se, but I love football. I’m dreading it because it will force me to watch the NBA, where fouls will be called for breathing on each other.
Prediction 5: Booze sales and stocks will continue to rise in 2011
When the going gets tough? Drink! Need to relax? Drink! No NFL? Drink a little more!
Prediction 6: Social Media will continue getting bigger and bigger
This one is sort of a no-brainer. Once Facebook goes public it will catapult itself to the levels of Microsoft, Apple, and Google. Too bad Goldman Sachs is trying its best to do what it does best.. I also expect large growth for Skype.
Prediction 7: Android phones will still make market share gains, despite Apple releasing the iPhone on Verizon
This is my upset prediction of the year. While most signs point to Apple making a killing on Verizon, I’m going to go out on a limb and say that they waited too long and the Android OS and its phone hardware have evolved to the point of erasing many of the previous competitive advantages the iPhone offered.
Prediction 8: Major car companies will report increased sales
But not in the United States. The increased sales will be from China.
